Happy New Year to Everyone!
After, all the excitement of the snow at the end of last year, the fun continues in Class 1 as we start our year in a refurbished classroom. Our amazing parents have been at it again and Mr Graham has transformed our class and, along with our fantastic staff from the Federation, created some fabulous new learning areas. The children could not wait to visit grandma's house in the role play corner or purchase construction materials to build the three little pigs' houses from our builders merchants in the outside play area.
The new reading corner is also popular and a lovely area to research our science and history topics. In science we will be looking at our bodies and senses and linking this into our whole school, healthy living programme. In history, we will be researching significant events and people. Watch this space to see what we have been exploring!
Every morning, we welcome children into school early and they are set challenges and activities which are individually suited to their current learning and needs. These are fun, quick and engage children in their learning from the minute they enter class. Remember parents, we welcome you to join in children's learning and look at what we are doing every Friday between 8:45 and 9:00am, we look forward to showing you our brilliant work!
We are focusing on Traditional Tales this term, focusing on The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. As well as retelling stories, we will be looking at stories from the different characters' point of view, writing letters, diaries and instructions. This will, of course, involve lots of dresssing up, role play and drama - watch out for some very realistic Big Bad Wolves which might be visiting a house near you!
Time, is our main focus at rthe start of term this will be linked in with as many curriculum areas as we can, especially PE. Additionally, we always explore number on a daily basis and engage in lots of discussion, reasoning and problem solving to keep our maths brains always busy!
Humans and other animals is our topic this term. We will be exploring our body parts, inside and out and testing our senses by becoming science detectives. As well as gaining a wide range of knowledge, we will also be extending our skills as investigators and conducting a variety of experiments, all under strict control as we become brilliant scientists!
We will also be looking at a whole range of subjects across the curriculum. Please look at the Spring curriculum letter for more details.
