EC2
EC2 Class page.
Welcome to EC2 of 2021! I hope you all had an amazing summer and ready for the term ahead. We have had a fantastic Term 2, but I am sure that our final Term 3 will be even more fun!!!
This term our Big Question is: "What makes a hero?".
We will have two assessed writing tasks. The first one will be a narrative story based on The Girl of Ink and Stars; the second will be a Poster about Greta Thunberg. In History we will study local hero Edward Jenner and his studies on vaccines and small pox. In geography we will explore local maps. In Art we will be studying LS Lowry and his urban landscape. We will have more fun studying and practicing 'Dancin' in the Street' in Music. In our final term we will go on Residential and prepare a final performance for the end of the year.
Class Routine
We will start our day practicing our handwriting skills and our spelling words for the week, followed by the English lesson. After a well deserved break and snack, we will have our Maths lesson. During Summer term Y6 will focus on SATs and consolidation before heading to an exciting course of study at Secondary School. Y3/4/5 we will learn about 'Angles, 'Time' and 'Decimals'. After lunch we will have our silent reading session, getting ready for our afternoon lessons: Science, Art, History, Geography, French, Computing, Music, French and DT.
Friday will be our "Fun Day" where we will finish our day with the long-waited "Kahoot for the week".
PE is on Thursday afternoon with Mr Cooper.
Homework will be given every Monday, and checked the following Monday.
The children will have a spelling activity and a GPS/Mathletics extension task every week.
Term Values
The value for Term 5 and 6 will be 'Responsibility' and 'Justice' and we will discuss them with the students during assemblies and classroom discussions.

'This is soooo fun!!'
I couldn't agree more with EC2 today. As we are finishing our unit 'Is the Earth angry', we designed and created earthquake resilient structures using artstraws in Y3/4 and wood, saws and glue in Y5/6.
What an amazing way to finish Spring term!!
Happy Easter everyone!!!

History
After having learnt about Howard Carter and his discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, we acted in role of archaeologists analysing pictures from the burial site. 'Wondering why' certain objects were placed in the Tutankhamun's tomb, we used the internet to answer our questions.

Mummification
As we are learning about mummification, we mummified a tomato. We followed the steps the Ancient Egyptians used to mummify pharaohs: clean the tomato, scoop the interiors, dry the interiors and cover the tomatoes with natron (salt and bicarbonate of soda).

Computing
Today we made short animations using Ipads and whiteboards. Working in small groups, we designed and recorded different videos: a stick man throwing a ball, a stick man making star jumps and a carpenter. Which one is your favourite one?

Forces
Busy afternoon today for EC2. While Year 3 and Year 4 investigated friction by measuring the distance covered by a toy car on different surfaces, Year 5 and Year 6 explored downward forces with spinners and paper clips.

Structure of the Earth
As we are studying the structure of the Earth, today we reproduced the four layers of our planet in our 'Desert in the Pot' activity. Using custard and food colouring we recreated the Inner core, Outer core, Mantle and Crust and then we placed our Jelly Babies on top.

Forces
As we start our new unit on 'Forces', we had a fun afternoon exploring the different forces that affect all objects around us. Using a ball, a string and an eraser we demonstrated gravity, push and pull, and friction. We also used magnets to investigate the magnetic field.

DT Project
We are getting ready to start our DT project: make our own bookmarks. Today we had our first lesson where we practiced different stitches on a binca. We did not think that sewing was so fun....and hard =)

The art of debate
As we are getting ready to write our Balanced Argument on deforestation, we researched and discussed the reasons why we need to use the resources from the rainforest, and why it is important to protect the rainforest. Acting in role, we had a fun and engaging discussion where we further discussed the pros and cons of deforestation.

Every Child An Artist
Inspired by Giacometti's work, we made statues of humans using aluminium foil

Anglo-Saxon Visit
We had a special visit today: a man from the Anglo-Saxons times came into school and brought several interesting objects.
